Seven Summits Centre for Learning, governed by the Visions for Small Schools Society (VSS) is a non-for -profit organization that opened in the Fall of 2013, creating a new option for the education of grade 8–12 learners from Rossland and beyond. 7S offers a learner-centered, inquiry-based learning approach to serve the aims of the B.C. government educational initiatives in providing an exceptional high school education.

Board Members support the 7S Staff with monthly meetings, actioning directives, grant writing, and fundraising, amongst other functions depending on the board members' skill sets. The VSS Constitution requires 3-5 board members and democratic voting of executive members at the AGM each October.

MISSION

Seven Summits strives to be the leading educational experience in the Kootenays for Grade 8-12 students with a focus on healthy athleticism and robust preparation for college or university.

As an innovative, self-sustaining, accessible and internationally recognized educational provider, our learners advance the knowledge, values and skills they need to meet their personal goals and to be a positive and successful force in the world.  Their skills are developed through participation and exploration in a supportive, nurturing environment, leading them to embrace a life of learning and meaningful experiences.

VISION

Our educational program aims to benefit a great variety of student profiles to help them thrive. This goal requires a specific learning climate:

  • We strive to be a supportive and inclusive learning environment that welcomes a diverse range of learning styles and cultural backgrounds. A prerequisite to an optimized atmosphere for learning is a safe environment that is personalized and relevant to nurture learners’ interests and curiosities

  • Due to the hybrid nature of our curriculum, a great deal of independence is required from our students, as well as a supportive attitude from our staff, teachers and parents

  • We believe that meaningful connections, built on trust between students, teachers, alumni, and the local community are imperative to the functioning of our Centre. We work closely with local partners, and we also support our students in finding volunteer opportunities to benefit the community

  • Technological innovation is key in creating solutions to educational challenges, which is why we do our best to stay abreast of technological trends
